Blast Lane

2017-2024

Blast Lane were an original blues-rock band from Sheffield, named after the City centre street where their practise room was. Their music combined British blues-rock with a heavier rock approach, driven by Chillo channeling Hendrix, SRV and others in his own unique and wonderful style. The rhythm section of Steve and Allen had played together for many years, from the days of "She Said".

The band  playing around the Sheffield area, appearing at venues including the Devonshire Cat and Toolmakers Live. They were also part of Sheffield's local blues circuit, appearing at the 2018 Honey Bees Blues Club weekend.

Their first album, Adventures in Modern Blues, was released independently on 21 June 2019. It contained eight original tracks, running for around 48 minutes. The songs included “Help Me”, “The Devil Is a Woman”, “Blues Came Along”, “Red”, “Say Goodbye”, “Long Way From Home”, “Fight Another Day” and “The Last Forever”.

A review in Blues Blast Magazine described the album as firmly blues-rock, highlighting its chunky guitar riffs, prominent bass and solid drumming. The reviewer particularly noted that the band wrote, arranged and performed all of their own material, rather than relying on traditional blues standards.

Their second album, Everything is Different Today (2022) was described by local legend Martin Bedford us as "Blues Rock as it should be". An EP What Do They Want from You? was released in 2023. Drummer Steve had to leave Sheffield and the band folded.
