Das Rad are a Sheffield-based “improg” band & have been together since 2016. They have released 5 albums (plus a 10″ vinyl). Their latest, “Funfair” (released on Discus Music) is attracting rave reviews from the likes of Steve Hackett.
Steve Dinsdale’s relentless drumming (and occasional keyboards) provides a basis for Nick’s guitar motifs / loops and Martin’s soaring woodwind & keyboards to interact and explore the sonic and atmospheric possibilities. Jon Short adds the bass “heft” and Peter Rophone provides some extraordinarily beautiful vocalisation. Not that we are biassed, but they are one of the most creative and original bands every to emerge from Sheffield.
Described in a recent review – “a pure heavenly euphoria, to put simply, astounding. Progressive music in the truest sense of the term, transcending the oft-clichéd sobriquet ‘prog’. They walk in the footsteps of the rock/jazz/fusion gods of the 70s but make their imprints deeper, more unshapely, and longer-lasting. Ears be blown here, folks. Godlike.”
