Kat Eaton is a Welsh-born, Sheffield-raised soul, blues and jazz singer-songwriter whose powerful, vintage-influenced voice has made her one of the most acclaimed contemporary artists to emerge from Sheffield’s modern music scene. Drawing on soul, gospel, blues and classic R&B, she has built a reputation through live performance, songwriting and international touring.
Raised in Sheffield, Eaton developed her musical identity through the city’s blues scene and was strongly influenced by legendary Sheffield blues musician Frank White, whose performances she watched as a teenager. She has described sneaking into local gigs and working men’s clubs to see White perform, experiences that shaped her decision to pursue roots music rather than mainstream pop.
Kat first came to wider attention through BBC Introducing, with early singles such as “Giving It Up” and “The Joker” gaining support from broadcasters including Terry Wogan, BBC Radio 2, Robert Elms and Gaby Roslin. Her soulful voice and songwriting brought attention not only in the UK but also across Europe, particularly in the Netherlands and Belgium. A key figure in her career is Nick Atkinson—guitarist, producer, songwriter and long-time collaborator, whom she met in Sheffield as a teenager. Their partnership became central to Eaton’s music, with Atkinson contributing production and co-writing while helping shape her warm, live-band sound.
Her debut album, Talk To Me (2021), established her as a major new soul voice, blending classic influences such as Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin and Amy Winehouse with modern songwriting. Critics praised the album for its authentic instrumentation and mature approach to soul and R&B. Eaton followed this with Honestly (2024), a more personal and roots-oriented album influenced by gospel and blues and dedicated in spirit to Frank White’s legacy. The record explored themes including mental health, relationships and vulnerability and marked a deeper move toward blues and gospel traditions.
She has toured extensively in the UK and Europe, supporting artists including Jools Holland, The Teskey Brothers, Paul Carrack, Marc Broussard and Mamas Gun, earning a reputation for emotionally powerful live performances backed by high-calibre musicians.
