The Warhols were part of Sheffield’s thriving late-1980s indie and alternative music scene, emerging during a period when the city was producing a huge variety of guitar bands alongside its better-known electronic acts. The group became a familiar name on the local live circuit, regularly appearing at venues such as Sheffield University, Take Two and the City Hall Ballroom. They shared bills with many rising Sheffield acts of the era, including Longpigs, and also appeared on multi-band showcases celebrating the city’s underground music community.
Although they never achieved the national profile of contemporaries such as Pulp or Longpigs, The Warhols were remembered fondly within Sheffield’s independent music network for their energetic live appearances and for being part of the city’s rich DIY scene. Mentions in local music archives and forum recollections suggest the band remained active into the early 1990s.
They released a single "The Other Side / Fear Of Falling" on Zoot Records in 1987, plus a number of appearances on compilation albums.
