Cabs tour!

Following their 50th exhibition (see post below) Cabaret Voltaire are playing a short tour in the autumn (17 to 21 November), although their home town show at Forge Warehouse, Sheffield, 25 October sold out as soon as it was announced. It is both a celebration, retrospective event and a tribute to the late Richard Kirk. You can read more in this interesting Guardian article which appeared on June 2nd.

The article also included this remarkable early photograph by Pete Hill. Although it was not mentioned, we are pretty certain this was taken in the band’s old rehearsal rooms in Western Works on Portobello Street. Simon recalls going round this old cutlery factory after it had been vacated. “I was on the look out for cutlery memorabilia, but the old studio walls were still covered in vintage Cabs posters and other vintage agit-prop material. I assumed the site owners were going to give the building a make-over as it was a fabulous piece of industrial architecture, so I salvaged a couple of posters off the floor and hopped it. A couple of weeks later The University put the bulldozers through the lot.”
