Down by The Boardwalk

Another Sheffield concert image, this one of brilliant rock guitarist Robin Trower, performing live at Sheffield’s Boardwalk Club in May 2006.  No mistaking the venue thanks to the backdrop!  Former guitarist with Procul Harum (and before that if you remember the Sixties, The Paramounts!), Trower went on to form his own group in the mid-1970s and had massive album chart success in America where he toured extensively and went to live.  In the UK Trower headlined the City Hall circuit for many years, including The City Hall where we saw him several times, and then latterly smaller clubs.  A devoted following means his shows always sold out very quickly.

The Boardwalk was one of Sheffield’s main music venues in a pub formerly known as The Black Swan (or The Mucky Duck to locals). The rock shows used to be held in the lower floor bar / venue but when it reopened as The Boardwalk they moved shows to the room on the ground floor.  It was well known for punk concerts, and was a real challenge for taking pictures as the crowd usually blocked the view!  We will try and dig out some more shots from shows here and do let us know if you have any we can feature.
