There is a well-regarded book about The Comsat Angels, was published in 2013 by Spaceward. The book is more of a musical analysis and history than a conventional rock biography. It examines the band’s albums, songwriting, instrumentation and lyrical themes in depth, with contributions and recollections from band members and associates.
It covers all of their albums and former guitarist Nick Robinson also contributed memories from the later period of the band. The band themselves took their name from a J. G. Ballard short story.
PR blurb says “The Comsat Angels are often unjustly overlooked for their important contribution to the music of the 1980s and beyond. This Musical Guide reassesses their position in the contemporary cultural landscape with analysis, musical examples, historical perspectives, transcriptions and input from band members. The author argues that the Comsat Angels were a band of supreme originality, intelligence and insight and this may be the main reason for their neglect by the mass audience.”
