Hudson Records

Hudson Records is an independent record label based in Sheffield, founded in 2016 by producer/engineer Andy Bell and Sheffield musician and academic Neil McSweeney. The label specialises primarily in contemporary folk, acoustic, indie and roots music, with a strong emphasis on artist development and community-based creative projects.

Named after Andy Bell’s dog, Hudson, the label was created with the aim of giving artists greater creative freedom and building a more sustainable and ethical model for independent music. Rather than operating solely as a traditional record company, Hudson combines record releases with artist management, production, publishing, distribution and collaborative cultural projects.

Since its launch, Hudson Records has developed a strong reputation within the British folk scene through releases by artists including Karine Polwart, Jon Boden, Sam Sweeney, The Furrow Collective, Bellowhead and The Young’uns. The label has become known for carefully produced recordings and innovative projects linking music with storytelling, local history and visual arts.

The company operates from Sheffield and promotes an artist-led philosophy, supporting musicians through recording, campaign management, live projects and long-term career development. Hudson also runs Hudson Club, a subscription platform giving supporters access to releases and exclusive material.
