Shit From Sheffield was a DIY Sheffield punk / post-punk cassette compilation issued in the early 1980s (exact release details remain obscure). It captured part of Sheffield’s underground alternative scene at a time when bands were recording cheaply and distributing music through local tape trading, independent shops, and gig networks rather than major labels. The compilation is now regarded as a rare document of the city’s grassroots scene.
The tape featured several lesser-known Sheffield acts connected with the city’s punk and post-punk movement, including The Deaf Aids, Repulsive Alien, Dig Vis Drill, and Artery. The title reflected the rough DIY humour and anti-establishment attitude common in the local underground scene. Unlike later Sheffield compilations tied to organisations or radio programmes, *Shit From Sheffield* appears to have been a more informal independent release with limited documentation surviving today.
1. The Deaf Aids – *Bored Christine*
2. Repulsive Alien – *Say and Do*
3. Dig Vis Drill – *Fix The Kitchen*
4. Artery – *David Lynch*
a later compilation/reissue project featuring a broader selection of Sheffield bands including Geddes Axe, Artery, Disease, Defective Turtles, The Prams, The Negatives and others.
