From his workshop on London Road, Pete Hartley probably repaired more equipment from Sheffield musos than anyone else. His knowledge of valve amps was second to none. He even launched a range of amps “Hartley Thompson” back in the 70s. Few people knew he actually had a website! Pete died in December 2014 and his typically Sheffield approach to life will be greatly missed.

  1. Very sad to hear that Pete Hartley has passed away he was a great character.
I am lucky enough to own a Hartley Thompson amp and it sounds great to this day. He recently repaired another amp of mine, successfully of course. RIP

  2. I have just come across this news (June 2021). I moved away from Sheffield in 2007. Pete repaired some home hi-fi separates for me. I found him to be affable, down-to-earth, knowledgeable – of course; generous with his time, patient with me and he had a very reasonable pricing structure (if such a thing existed in his world). A great loss. Thank you Pete.
