We do visit Bellhouse Road in Sheffield every once in a while. It is very much not a fashionable area of the city, but the park has a great cafe and this street has one of the oldest retailers in Sheffield, a wool shop open 80 years and counting! And back before the war there were several shops selling records on this street. Here is one new to us, W H Johnson. Sadly we have no information on the shop’s history but if the record in the sleeve is original, it dates to 1929 which is about right for the design (and the gramophone makers Minster and Karna as well). As we can see the shop is retailing 78 gramophone players as well as the major record labels. Today it is a convenience store.
